Planning to fly into Boston, have a day or two there and then drive to meet daughter and family including 2 yr. old grandson somewhere half-way from their home in Cleveland for a week self-catering somewhere pretty and scenic.
We've been to the Finger Lakes' and Appalachians,this would be in July or August no fixed dates yet, any ideas or recommendations, one or two trips to explore local area would be good but really we want to talk, eat and play with the family.Thanks.

Simply looking at a map (and then doing a bit of googling) suggests that the area around Wilkes-Barre might be interesting:

(It's 310 miles from Boston and 360 miles from Cleveland).

However if you're prepared to do most of the driving, Buffalo might be a better option. (It's 455 miles from Boston but only 190 miles from Cleveland):

You can't get much more 'scenic' than Niagara Falls!

Have a great time with your family meg. A wonderful idea. :o}
