Where do car supermarkets such as Motorpoint get their cars from?

Are they good value, or can you come a cropper buying there?

Ex hire cars.
From wherever they can,Hopkirk.

Some good value some not so good. Caveat emptor applies.
Most of the large Motor Auction houses do regular Ex Fleet Sales - BCA is one I have been to, there are plenty more.

Bazile, that link is interesting.
however it is six years old, so I wonder if it is still accurate.

Ummmm's ex hire car suggestion makes a lot of sense.

I have seen a few reviews suggesting that if there are problems with the car afterwards the car supermarkets are not very helpful.
The company I work for leases their vehicles for 3 years maximum. That means the lease company have to dispose of 6000 vehicles and that is just from one contract. Lease companies will have 100s of contract running at the same time.
As a rule my vehicle will have less than 20,000 miles on the clock and have only one owner along with full service history.... Ideal for a car supermarket.
Sometimes they dont even own the cars they sell.
I went to one and told the salesman the car I had seen on ebay was better value than his. He asked to look at the listing and checked and told me he could sell me the exact same car - which he subsequently did.
No chance of wriggling out of the price promise either.
the two dealers were not connected.
I think that they are mainly ex lease cars, say when a company leases a fleet of brand new cars and the lease is up a car supermarket will usually buy the fleet at a good discount from the lease company.
Oop's just read alavahalf's post, pretty much the same as mine.
we went to glasgow from northumberland in oct 2006 for a car which even though we had to travel was a great price, the car came from another motorpoint and i had it for over 6 years until i reluctantly updated
Please remember that the term "Car Supermarket" is an invented one. It just means "Second hand car dealer"

If you are tempted by one of these places, proceed with the same caution you would use if you were contemplating buying from "Joe Bloggs Wheels"
