Lunch @ 12.30 - 1x ham and cheese toastie, nice and fat, with Jerusalem artichokes, some reheated roasties and peas for the mater.

For me on my diet, cold chicken leg, a little Yorkshire Blue, Gorgonzola, a splodge of red pepper hummus and an apple.

2nd attempted lunch suddenly appeared at 2.30 - dogfood, cornflakes, my swede mash (destined for dinner instead of potatoes), chocolate mousse and red pepper hummus.

6.15, starting the cooking for dinner, I discover at the back of the Aga, two chicories - in the dog's bowl, black - having been in there since c.2.15. She doesn't even like chicory and there goes £1-50 out of the window, that for tomorrow's dinner for me.

Cheers, I'm going to open a bottle of wine and, no, it ain't Sainsbury's Longue Dog/

What helps keep you sane Dt? Do you manage all this on your own?
Question Author
Was eating there, elina.

A degree of insanity, I think, a sense of humour, and, it's not me, immense patience. Where this has come from, I do not know.

One of my sisters helps from time to time and is a platform to *** against too. I could do with more breaks though and, as it gets worse, there's even more call for that.

We are now thinking about getting in bathing and clothing help.....

The problem is that she has always been very selfish (an only child) and can be unbelievably stubborn - that is a family trait, the want to butt heads from time to time - and there's a lot of redheads too, not her.
They`re all stubborn DT - it goes with the territory. Is there a day centre where your Mum could go once a week so that you can get some respite?
Question Author
I can imagine that....her in a day centre - lol - she's not the most social of folk. What would be better is a sister a day a week, or probably better two days a fortnight. What has collapsed is the NHS old folk mental nurse, we had a lovely one and then she moved on, the new one hasn't seen her for seven months.
She would escape, SJ
Question Author
there's always that - and after last week. SJ, if you haven't seen it, just hit 'The Great Dental Escape' last Thursday.... a surprise that I didn't see coming.
Yes you do need a break from time to time, it's essential to be honest. I've just been replying to a text from sister to cover this weekend. She does the bulk of care as official paid carer, but I fully realise that need to break away. Regards getting in further help as things progress, yes we went through this stage with my dad who flatly refused initially. Over time when he saw how this responsibility on mum got way too much, he eventually relented. I felt it kind of broke him a little, I understood his embarrassment & his need for modesty.
You do a marvellous job by the way Dt, you really do. Well done!
Question Author
Nah - it has to be done, elina, the rewards hopefully come later.
Question Author
I must add that this diet of mine probably doesn't help my well being, but I want to be off the blood pressure pills and lower the risk of gout and even diabetes 2 (-don't have it but it was a potential). 20 lbs gone in the month, fatigue the side effect. Sleep well though!
Never mind nah. Yes it has to be done but these things are very testing emotionally. We all need a hand sometimes, to cry sometimes & to talk to others. My family have gone for years without any traumas to bam, have that & some more. Sister stepped up to the mark, I really don't know if I could have done the same, that's being truthful.
No prob not regards diet, all your luxuries that help you cope, especially alcohol. Still, the rewards in your health are there. You can always have a blow out now & then! ;0)
Question Author
actually, the support from folk on here helps, it just provides a vent. Okay, I can make many a joke of it and have a laugh but it helps set the reset button. The breaks, well even two nights away at a fav inn near Exeter helps and there's a nice place near boaty - two nights and one relaxes a bit.

So thanks to ABers directly so and indirectly so......
Question Author
Now if this minimum-carbs diet banned wine, I would be in serious trouble! Thank goodness for small things, not that I am going crazy on it, only a couple of large glasses in the evening, followed by an apple for dessert.
Dt , it really does ... & I return the thanks to you for taking the time to help me when you did a while back.
Question Author
not needed, elina....though appreciated - of one can help others through experiences, then that makes for a better world, however small the contribution.
Yes, be thankful for small mercies ... now you're going over the top with your Apple LOL!!
Question Author
not quite - just waiting for half time in the Man U-Arsenal game, a clean-up and then the 'pomme' de Madame Smith.
Yes, watching here. Enjoy your Apple! :0)
Question Author
well still no appearance, everything cleaned but I can have a meal in front of her in fifteen with the aga to heat things up. 2nd half now....no allegiance to either team.
