Isn't it sad to see all the hopeful exuberance of youth turn to melancholy tax exile in the Caribbean?

Wasn't he born in India?
He looks exactly the same to me.
Question Author
I believe he was, yes.
He doesn`t seem melancholy when he`s interviewed and if I had his place in Barbados I`d be pretty happy. I don`t think he lives there all the time, I think he`s in this country and Portugal (he used to live at St Georges' Hill in Weybridge but he sold the place)
Ah well, it's nice to be miserable in comfort.

I didn't watch the film this morning and its been donkeys years since I've seen it. Does his 'love interest'(Lauri Peters?) come into the film disguised as a young lad?
Lucknow, India, I used to be a great fan.
I've never been a fan but i think he's had a charmed life. I'd be happy to end up a tax exile in Barbados.

Early 60's, I remember the Soundtrack, 'Bachelor Boy' and 'Stranger in Town' were I think, followed by 'Big News' and 'Let Us Take You for a Ride'
I have a friend who lives in Barbados and she hates it with a passion. She can't wait to come home.
She particularly doesn't like the fact that the latest it gets dark is just after 6pm. She works very long hours so during the week she never enjoys light evenings. The monkeys drive her to distraction and she has to keep her windows closed or use grills.
"grills"?.....to cook them, presumably.
Funny you should say that hc, have holidayed for the first time in my life last couple of years in Caribbean and found the darkness by 6 all year round not only surprising but something that would in reality make me never want to live there.
I'm the same, Prudie. Our long summer days are something to look forward to during the winter. I love the contrast of our seasons.
I quite like the early darkness. When I`m in Barbados I go to bed early and am itching to get up at the crack of dawn (complete opposite to home) which is the best time on the beach - there`s nobody there and the heat hasn`t got up.
All well and good if you don't have to get your children ready for school and yourself ready for work, 237SJ.
I`m probably working when you are kipping hc - nothing like going to work at 8pm on a summer saturday evening when you can smell the BBQs and the radio`s playing all the laid back tunes
