Now I'm no fan of the parking bandits but the rules are simple enough, pay, park in a marked bay and come back before your ticket runs out. How long before we hear some eejit bleating, "I was only 11 minutes late"?

Thanks, Sunny-Dave...I'll remember that next time someone else gives me one and have a good look round before I fix it to my windscreen.
I agree jno - but the local by-laws will have been written carefully to maximise the income from this vile 'business'.

ladyalex, I do that, they don't like it but there's nothing they can do. One local carpark near me had a system of putting part of your reg in but that caused more problems so they abandonned it.
It depends on what you're parking for. I went to give blood and could only find a 1 hour parking space. I managed to get back just in time against the nurses advice.

Another time I got a ticket for parking in a loading bay. I appealed it and the council waived it so they're not completely unreasonable.
My council has issued me with a new library card recently. It has a little chip in it so that when I put it in a council run carpark machine, I get half an hour free parking. It`s great if I just want to dash in a shop to get something. They did it to stimulate trade in local shops which is a great idea.
It is a good idea.

Our council are currently depedrienising the town centre to encourage more people in. It's making free parking so people are more likely to pop into town than go to the out of town retail areas.
