apparently they are worried that the imagery may dissuade people from Islam! ... and wanton vandalism wont?! Is belief in Islam so fragile looking at a statue could cause apostacy? If only they could see irony.

Real version & joke version = same version
They really are contemptible morons. Some dhimmi just called a radio discussion about this and said the British have done the same thing all over the world. We need to start laying on free flights to these Islamic Utopias for people who hate this country.

we never did vandalism, we may have alf inched the occasional Elgin Marble that that was entirely for altruistic reasons!
Lucky we 'half-inched' some Assyrian pieces. ;)
Ronald Rumsfeld famous said when Baghdad Museum was looted of 15,000 priceless artifacts, "Stuff happens".

More recently,

// The United States military turned the site of ancient Babylon into Camp Alpha in 2003 and 2004, inflicting serious damage according to an exhaustive damage assessment recently released by UNESCO. Bulldozers leveled many of Babylon's artifact-laden hills. Helicopters caused structural damage to an ancient theater. //

There is a fine line between deliberate obliteration, and damage caused by reckless disregard. The result is the same, the loss of historical artifacts.
Completely off topic, but the talk of priceless artifacts being ruined reminded me of this story about the numpties who broke the beard off Tutenkhamen's mask and superglued it back on badly.

I wouldn't call it a fine line. It's a glaring great chasm.
Napoleon supposedly had the Sphinx vandalised because the nose was too African.
Throughout history we have had madmen trying to destroy the past because it didn't fit with their spurious beliefs.
At the risk of repeating myself - morons!
It is the bit on idolatry
and the fun loving muslims are saying that the statues in the museums were being worshipped

Pity as the space between the Tigris and Euphrates was the cradle of civilisation 7000 y ago or thereabouts - and the so the sites are of value to us all.

Egypt and Sudan have a long archeological history
w/o the arabs going around mutilating everything
and so I felt sick at the viddie

cultural equivalent of beheading.... note they were using western technology to film it
alot about Koran and idolatry here
and its in English !

And what else are they doing according to the Quran?
shagging each other, no doubt - one just has to go to Riyadh or Jeddah to see over homosexuality - and what does the Quran say about that, *** me if I know.
DTC....you do go to some interesting places !
Every ME country bar Iran and Israel, mikey, - in the past when places like Yemen were reasonably safe. Lebanon in the war was different - didn't tell the family until I was back.
Morocco was always a favorite o Kenneth Williams and Joe Orton in the 1960's....nothing you couldn't get there apparently, apart from a decent cup of tea !
Not sure about that, mikey, never mind Marrakesh, what about Tangiers, a right den of inequity there....?
In light of you going of topic once again, mikey...do you think you could refrain from telling others to stay on topic on future threads?

I'll just echo, Naomi

Morons!
