I'd have thought it helps them enormously with this issue. I cannot see in this short article what possible objection they would have. They claim to want to deal with this endemic problem so what gives?

Concerned about tourism perhaps. The article is unlikely to attract tourists, but a few might be put off.
The BBC should removed their World Service from India after all the British licence payer's pays for it.
India, as a govt has a very clear policy. Just show your good side to the world and hide everything else or better sweep in under the carpet.

If someone remembers there was a huge unrest in India when they showed Slumdog Millionair.

What gives ? They are ashamed of themselves, and they don't like being ashamed of themselves.
Not squeamish divebuddy. This is the country which has a space programme and to which we give aid. The aid should stop immediately. They can sort this out themselves.
