My dad plays gigs in pubs for a living and buisness has been going down ever since he law was past for no smoking indoors. Whatever pub you go in they say they know they won't last much longer and it won't get better again because people can no longer smoke indoors. Then you get the arguments about health issues but its up to you if you go in. I think it should be up to the place if they want people to smoke or not. Now E-Cigarettes are here but people are now even saying you shouldn't smoke them inside because of health issues. Nanny state? I think so. People can't make their own chooses now.

Retrosun I have :). I can get a little well, ***. Thank you for understanding!
Retrosun: Not really. I've done a lot of things in the past and when I was younger I could easily work more than one job at a time. I don't do pub work any more. I've done all sorts in the past. Now looking after the dogs and working at the new charity is enough for me until I can get back into work. Not bar work though.
Don't let the whingers browbeat you, greenday. If you want smoking in pubs you're entitled to have that opinion. I want smoking in pubs myself A, because I smoke and I don't give a flying one what other people want. And B. It'll, maybe, keep all these serial whingers out the pub and the fun people will come back.

Remember all those movies from the Thirties, Forties, even the Fifties where every body smoked? A swirling vapor of smoke always appeared to shroud each scene. Most of the actors are dead now: surely that proves a point:)
Not quite, Stuey. Anyone born in the 30s would be in their 80s by now, so quite likely dead or ready to drop off the perch. The great American comedian George Burns was never seen without a cigar in his mouth and he lived to be 100.
I read Leonard Nimoy gave up smoking in his 50s but died of COPD in his 80s...not bad considering Ive lost non-smoking friends much younger.

I worry about the pub alcohol culture, that's more harmful.
Well, Jackdaw33, anybody born in the Thirties probably wouldn't have had a "smoking" role in that decade, or even the Forties, maybe the Fifties. By the way, I'm a smoker, and my post was sort of tongue in cheek:)
Would be interesting to know how many smokers have had a cold or flu this winter. Smoking seems an antidote to me....bet I catch cold next week ;)
Tambo, I cough so much that those pesky cold viri don't have a chance to latch onto my throat:)
Viruses, not viri. The word virus is not derived from Latin. Enough of my pedantry, time for bed.
Every customer in today (18) had a cold & I work in a confined space. No smoking on our premises. Those who had flu jabs got flu. So far, am spared.
It appears that you are correct, Jackdaw33. Good evening.
So the flu jabs worked then Tambo.
Don't get one yourself!!
I dont get flu jabs. I avoid the docs like a plague.
Flu jab? Now there's a thought. Had one many years ago at the tender age of 22 after surgery following a serious accident. Was ill for weeks; now that I'm in my 60s GP goes mad when I refuse another one.
Gave up ciggies 26 years ago .Health ways it was not great ,chest infection .flu ,colds sore heads ,joints . Where's the holidays ,cars and boats I was going to get with the money I saved .noticed the other day in the shop ciggies are nearly 10 quid for 20' now that's an expensive taste ,give up the booze 28 years ago so smoking in bars is not going to affect me .fags a tenner pint 4 quid where did I put the keys of the bicycle ?
Only about 21% of adults now smoke here in Wales. So why are all the Pubs going out of business ?......yes, of course.... it must be the smoking ban !

What about the nearly 80% of people who don't smoke ? Don't they have rights to enjoy an evening with friends without that awful stink ?

I go to a local Weatherspoons on a Thursday, for their "Curry and a Pint Night" and the place is packed. Why should we be expected to go elsewhere just because a small minority want to smoke ?

Smokers....stop whinging and give the fags up. You will save a small fortune, you won't have bad breath and you will probably live longer.

Whats not to like ?
I smoke and I'd hate to have smoking allowed in pubs again. I'd rather go out in the peeing rain than have to eat a meal surrounded by other peoples smoke.

^^ What Ummmm said^^

Same here....
