I am fancying a break in Brighton, but cannot find a hotel that tempts me.

I am now casting my net further afield and wondering what Hove may have to offer or if anyone can recommend a pub that offers good food and accommodation within easy reach of Brighton.

Arundel has been mentioned previously. This is quite a nice pub full of character http://www.swanarundel.co.uk/... it's just a few minutes from where I live and we often visit on a Friday night ... they do fish and chips to die for.
If you like antiques, tea rooms and a cathedral there is more than enough to keep you from going to Brighton in the town.
If it's some time since you have been to Brighton you might not be aware of the congestion and the parking charges. Personally I would jump on the train at Angmering and get the train into Brighton .. less stressful.
Can I suggest a B&B (rather than a pub) in a town that's less than 15 minutes away from Brighton by train? My work takes me all over the south of England and it's the best accommodation (by far) that I've ever come across:

Sticking with B&Bs for the moment, The Art House in Hove has amazing reviews on TripAdvisor:

and Blenheim House in Rottingdean also looks great:

If you want to stick with a pub, consider the Blacksmith's Arms, on the edge of Lewes:

or the Black Horse in Lewes itself:

Just looked at Chris' link.... Rottingdean's a lovely village, a short bus ride from Brighton - I know, I used to live there :-)
