When I insert my headphones (Sony) in the phone jack the sound /music bypasses the headphones causing every one in the room to hear what I am listening to, in the main, You Tube.

Any advice I would be grateful. I have a Acer laptop E1-470 but now out of the twelve months warranty expired in December 14

Thanks

How old is this Acer E1-470 laptop? Based on your posts, the headphone socket appears to be faulty. This could well be a straightforward repair for your local Acer Laptop repairer. Be sure to test the repair before leaving the repair shop. Good luck.

Are you sure you're not using the microphone Jack by mistake?
Can you try, gently, to push the Jack in further?

Jenny I have tried two other headsets with out success.
Thank you both.

After inserting the plug try moving it about 0.5 - 1mm back out and see if that disables the speakers.

Thank you Methyl. I bought it brand new from pc world in December 13 but is now over the 12months so it will cost me to have it repaired at a local repair shop. Do not want to take it to Pc world.
Thanks again.
