How much longer can things like this go on, either charge him or drop the accusations against him.

Judging by the reader's views he has got the public behind him.

RATTER15 /// Dave, so you think the laws should be different for the rich and famous?///
Exactly, they shouldn't be tipping off the BBC or the media when they're investigating people. They're blatant 'fishing exercises'.

It is said, allegedly, that The Young Ones can cause you grief in later life!
mikey - "But if he is innocent, perhaps he shouldn't have consorted with known sexual deviants in the first place. As someone has already said on here....lying down with dogs generally leaves you with fleas."

Can you elaborate - hopefully without running into any potential libel action!
I can't really elaborate, as it would give our Editor heart failure if I did !

However, you can start by googling Elm Guest House. Have a look at Dolphin Square while you are at it.
Once again we see soeones life turned upside down continually - without a trial.

It is wrong so wrong.

If there is evidence, charge him and lets have a court trial, otherwise Plod should keep stum.

They already are. If you're famous the police tell the BBC they're going to raid your house while you're on holiday and they might want to come along with a helicopter and film the whole thing so they've got something juicy to put on the 6 o'clock news which may help the police build a case.

/// Its Cliff Richard singular, not Richards. ///

Oh you are so clever to have spotted that mistake, I am sure it makes a hell of a difference to the thread.

And should that be Richard singular, not Richards plural?
jno, //I don't know that any damage has been done.//

It has if he's innocent. Mud sticks.
You forgot the apostrophe aog! That's a hanging offence in some quarters:)
youngmafbog, there cant be a trial without thoroughly investigating the complaints first, it doesn't happen overnight!
They shouldn't be informing the media that they're investigating. Would you like your local paper to do a story about you being investigated? It's obvious why they do it. They haven't got any/enough information to charge people and they do it to 'build' a case.

The media faces the age-old dilemma, depending on whether they are exercising their public conscience, or looking at their circulation figures - it's the difference between what's in the public interest, and what interests the public - they are rarely the same thing.
Well as Mikey says re the Elm Guest House "goings on", about time the "sainted" Harry Webb alias Cliff got his comeuppance, along with the other visitors to this establishment.
I wouldn't say it's a question of how the media behave. It's a question of how the police/prosecutor behaves.
