The 1530s seem to have been an interesting time to live..... and die !
Yes, PP, great employment opportunities for executioners - and axe-makers!
.

as he clocked up more and more wives

one turned him down with: but I have a very small neck

and the Regent of the Netherlands commented: if I had two necks, I would gladly sacrifice one for the king of England
"blimey, is any of it true"? No, not necessarily but it`s based on fact

I am not a huge fan of Damien Lewis but I have to say that he is doing a marvelous job here.

Its interesting that Mantel is painting Cromwell in a much better light than I remember learning about as a schoolboy in the 50's and 60's. Henry must have been the Boss from hell !
it just gets better and better. henry - mental issues?
Question Author
LadyJ......I am sure that Henry the Eighth would have provided a life's work for a whole team of trickcyclists !

Supreme power combined with megalomania....a true perfect storm !
too true mikey. court was not a safe place.
Question Author
Court was indeed a dangerous place LadyJ, but most of them there had no real choice I suppose. There was no "middle class" in those days and if the King summoned you to appear, then off you went. But I am not sure exactly where all the events of last night's episode occurred, as Henry was on one of his summer Progresses. Being visited by the King could seriously bankrupt most people and you couldn't really hide behind the curtains and pretend to be out, as I do now ( ! )
so that's what happened the last time I called to see you.
