So last night we went to the Barbican Hall to see Alice Sara Ott playing Liszt's Piano Concerto Nr2, and the London Symphony Orchesta playing Mahler's Symphony Nr6.

Alice OT is phenomenal. She's a tiny little thing, but she gives the piano such a pounding. A really fantastic, spirited performance of the Nr2. She really threw herself about. I kept thinking of that line .. "though she is but little, she is fierce"? ... something like that ... from Midsummer Night's Dream. And a bit of Schumann for an encore. Very jolly.

After the interval, the LSO were fab, performing the 6th. Conductor Gianandrea Noseda was energetic and ... well, quite sweaty, actually. Mahler needs a huge orchestra, and it's great to hear so many double basses and kettle drums, all booming away. E conductor seemed to get quite a workout, controlling them all.

The 6th is the one with the famous "hammer blows of fate" in the last movement, and one of the percussionists actually had a big wooden hammer, with a head about the size of his body. Nice touch. He got a big cheer at the end.

I came away with a fistful of Alice SO's CDs, which I've had on in the background this morning. Some Chopin, at the mo. Very relaxing. I'm all chilled out ... Aaaahhhhhh!

Anyway, that's my entry for Gig Of The Week.

Oh, thanks for that, HU.

Good clips.

She was really good. She is so petite. She looked tiny playing the huge Steinway concert grand. But she completely "owned" it.

Great that she has another fan here on AB.

Just noticed, I put "Alice OT"

#fail

That should've been either ... Alice SO ... or Alice Ott
joggerjayne...... We all make typos. I said that said that Alice Ott was 24. I should have said 26.

Incidentally, she has a sister who is also a first class pianist; as was their mother.

Just to show that I am somewhat Abreast of matters I am giving a link to the sister, Mona Asuka Ott in full form. :-)

Hans.
She's new to me, but thanks to Hans and JJ for posting about her :o)
