/// William Hague, the Foreign Secretary, defended the funding this week, saying: “It is always difficult to make decisions about whether to give training to an army where crimes have been committed or alleged, but part of the argument for that training is to ensure that such crimes are not committed in future. That is why such decisions have been made in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.” ///

/// A Ministry of Defence spokesperson said: “The UK Government is committed to supporting Burma’s process of reform and it is only through engagement with all parties, including key political forces such as the Tatmadaw (Burmese military), that this will be achieved. The MOD has developed a carefully monitored education programme focussing on this reform and the Defence Attaché in Burma has been crucial in gaining access to the military.” ///

Another well researched piece from the Telegraph.

William Hague is not the Foreign Secretary.
He WAS the worse Foreign Secretary for decades and it was a good day when he was removed.

Well spotted, missed that completely, but may I correct you? He wasn't sacked he quit.

*** William Hague has shocked MPs by quitting as Foreign Secretary and announcing that he will leave the Commons at next year’s general election. ***
AOG

People in high office of Foreign Secretary do not quit unless they have to because of scandal. Hague was terrible as Foreign Secretary and was mostly to blame for the acutely embarrassing Commons defeat over Syria which infuriated Cameron. It would have been an admission of weakness for Cameron to sack Hague, so he did everyone a favour, and fell on his sword.
Not as bad as Jack Straw who helped take us to war on a lie!
Or how about John Reid who went to Helmand in 2006 promising "We will be perfectly happy to leave in three years without firing a shot".
