Over the last week my blood pressure seems elevated (home machine). averaging about 146/88 though sometimes it seems to jump up when I first sit down to take it at about 100/90. My pulse is about 77.

This morning I took half of a 10mg Propranonol which I was prescribed in the past for anxiety.

I have just taken pressure again and it has now come down to 131/71 with pulse being 57.

I have been prescribed blood pressure meds in the past but they always bring it down too low, and that's on a small dosage.

My question is , do I have high blood pressure or is it just a random reading.?

Sorry that should have read 131/81.
you have to keep doing it consistently over a few more days to figure that out. also, avoid tea, coffee and cigarettes for 15 min beforehand and make sure your body is at rest whilst doing so. then you will know if it is low, high or all over the place.
And to add a main purpose of propanalol is to lower blood pressure. I always have them to hand, call them my panic pills, in times of anxiety but they do lower blood pressure and as you've noticed they slow the heart rate down to what I sometimes find alarmingly slow (57 is slow unless you are a super fit athlete)

Well you have answered the question yourself my love.

Yes you do have BP and my advice would be to take Propranolol 5mgms daily.

Thanks for your answers. Sqad I am a bit concerned over the low heart rate though.

That is quite understandable, but at the moment I wouldn't be worried about 57/min.

I cannot say what will happen to your BP and pulse rate if you took 5mgms daily, one would have to take them and monitor the situation.

You could either "crack on" with my advice, or see your GP with your concerns.

I've had a word with the practice nurse on the phone who said don't take the Propranonol but monitor the pressure over the weekend and I have made an appointment with the gp for next Thursday.

She also said not to do any exercise until have seen gp.
That sounds fine.
