Coconut oil seems to be the new 'discovery' and 'cure-all', but not particularly cheap.
Surely it is relatively easy to make it from scratch at home???

Here are three methods. Not sure how much you get for a lot of effort. I'd stick to buying it. http://m.wikihow.com/Make-Virgin-Coconut-Oil

It is now stocked in Tesco and reports online say it is cheapest around. I bought a tub from there recently. I can't remember exact price but I doubt I spent more than £3.

Thanks Pasta, looks interesting. Will have a go.
I have a jar of raw virgin coconut oil in my kitchen (more of a fat at room temperature). Bought on a rare whim, never known what to do with it, way past the date on the base now. Does it have any known uses ?
Chemists used to sell it in the 80s and 90s, my sister used to use it as sun tan lotion, which usually resulted in horrific sunburn.
Thanks for the list. Some of the food suggestions I have come across.

I do very little frying (calories and all that) a rare stir fry maybe and then I feel guilty as I fry it for an adequate length of time to cook the food. And don't really want to add it for the sake of it to things like smoothies.

The chips sound nice. But chips always do. It's so unfair. So it is that or spread it on bread/toast. Maybe I'll have a month where I replace the cholesterol reducing spread with it then. Cheers.
Good luck with it,one can only try.
It is brilliant for make up including eye make up remover - and it improves your feet skin and nails if you apply it at night.
I'll remember that tip when I go to bed tonight.
