I`ve been trawling through my CD collection, picking out the tracks I like and adding them to my itunes library. I might make compilation CDs of my favourite tracks so before I get rid of the originals, is it easy to burn discs on itunes? Do you have to make a playlist and burn from there?

Yes - you make a play list of the songs you want on the CD and then burn to disc from the iTunes 'File' menu. The amount of songs per CD track list depends on the length of the songs and the file size of each individual file e.g. AAC, MP3 etc etc. I keep my Playlist running time to 1 Hour & 18 Mins per CD with No Gaps between songs....

isn't it possible to bypass itunes and just copy them from the original CD to a blank one?

Thanks Fanriffic. Jno - it probably is but I don`t want a direct CD to CD copy - I only want certain tracks from each CD so I might as well do it in Itunes as that`s where the songs are.
After you have made your compilation playlist, the Burn command is under the 'File' dropdown menu.

Thank you Gromit. I might do a 'test' one later on. I might be back with some more questions...
If you print the Playlist, it will make a mosiac of the covers as well as the tracklisting, with cutmarks to fit a CD case.

That sounds good. It`s all come on a long way since I used to copy CDs with Media Player when I had my first computer.
