Lump In Armpit

I found a small lump earlier in one of my armpits, high up to the start of my inner arm. I'm keeping an eye on it in case it turns in to an abscess (as am prone to them, just not usually there) but could it be a lymph gland come up?

Not got any obvious signs of infection etc... (yet!).

If it lingers I am going to see if I can get a breast check done as have a small bruise on the other breast which seems to be lingering and had a few scares previously, though all benign or due to another condition now diagnosed.

Was wondering if anyone could tell if there is there a simple way to tell if it is a lymph gland come up?

If you've got other symptoms as well it clearly makes sense to get things checked out but I've experienced plenty of armpit swellings over the past 60 years and I'm still here, so there's probably nothing to worry about.
Please, don't let it linger, better safe than sorry...Get it checked!
Chris is right of course,it could be a gland or an early abscess and likely not anything sinister - get it checked out and the bruised breast too Eve.

Let us know how you get on.

If it is a cyst, it will be in the skin and feeling with finger and thumb will identify the site which is in the skin.

If it is a lymph gland then feeling with finger and thumb will clearly show that it is separate from the skin which can be moved OVER the lump.

You have a history of "medical lumps" in that area, in which case i would give it a week to show it's true nature.

Thanks all. feels different to abscesses (at the moment), it feels under the skin, like a little pea underneath. It is a little tender on the skin over where it is. If I move the skin it feels like it is pulling it though it does move with the skin a little rather than being fixed and rigid. I can press it down about a centimetre or so and still feel it. Does that help?

I am keeping a close eye on it and will get it checked, along with the bruise on my breast which seems to be a little bigger today but not much.
Yes, that does help........sounds very much like a cyst. Give it a week or so and if it gets bigger, then see your GP.
