I'm after a spare wheel for my mazda rx8 they use 18 inch rims so was wondering if any other manufacturers wheels would fit . Reason why I ask I've been looking on eBay for a single wheel but all rx8 ones to far away and local pick up only so need other options.

It is (obviously) 'not that simple'.

Any wheel you find has to have exactly the same spacing for nuts/bolts and must also be able to have a tyre of exactly the same width/profile fitted - otherwise your car will be hopelessly unbalanced.

It wouldn't be to leave on its just to fit if I need to take it to tyre shop or garage so slight unbalance not an issue
