I always wonder why people like the Pope, David Cameron, and other high profile people come out to say they condemn obviously terrible acts like the Charlie Hebdo murders recently. Why bother saying you condemn this sort of thing, it's obvious that any right thinking person would condemn murders and bombings etc. Or am I missing something, for example do they have to publicly condemn these things?

I suppose it is to provide a contrast to some other points of view. A Slough newsagent (who is probably counted among the "vast majority of Muslims who are peace-loving") was quoted as saying that whilst he expects no widespread rejoicing on the streets, few Muslims among his acquaintences will be mourning for those killed in Paris.

I think you have to consider what the reaction would be if he, and other prominent figures, DIDN'T make such comments (or visit scenes of disasters etc). There would be critics saying that they didn't care/weren't in touch with the people etc.

When I was a child we used to hear about something called "universal truth", obviously mean something that needs no explaining. But unfortunately now we are at a stage time that if a husband does not say to his wife, a father does not say to daughter or son, a son or daughter does not say to parents in WORDS that "I love you" then they automatically start believing that they don't.

Same here, and I believe it is due to the widespread media. They have to report what people were doing even in their bathrooms. So therefore these well known people are obliged to come forward and say something that anyone in right mind should not have to say as it is common sense. Words speak louder than actions now a days.
