I've seen these advertised and they claim to be "simple and easy to use" but are they really up to the job.
I just can't see them splitting hardwoods like oak, beech and London plane.
Does anyone have or use one ?

Your not going 'across the grain' with them so shouldn't be a problem.

They're designed to split 'with the grain'
There ok for short well seasoned logs without interlocking branch grain. On these types of logs its just as easy with a good maul...if you are able.I use a 20 ton hydraulic splitter and that splutters with some hardwood transverse grain.

So what about, straight grained green logs, Bright Spark. will it struggle with them ?
Chips.......you will be ok as long as they are up to about 6" dia and no longer than about 12"..depending on the splitter.Cant you try one at a local dealer before you buy?...what make are you looking at?

Sparks, The one I was considering is being offered at a reduced price of about £40.00 at the mo, in the Coopers catalog, most of the others that I've seen advertised appear identical.
I was hoping for some firsthand experience from a user of this device.
I don't know of any dealers who do demos but I'll be keeping an eye out.
Thanks.
