Not sure what section to put this is in.

Today I got a "scam" phone call pretending to be from BT saying I had not paid my bill.

I have a contract with BT just for BT Sport (no BT phone line). I pay monthly by direct debit and as far as I was aware all my payments were up to date.

This "lady" said she was from BT and was going to disconnect my phone today as I had not paid my bill.

I was a bit suspicious so gave her little information but she knew my name, my address and how much I paid every month.

So I told her I would phone BT direct to confirm the situation.

Eventually I got through to BT (boy do they make it hard for you to talk to a person).

Seems my payments are up to date and I owe nothing.

So beware of phone calls from people pretending to be from BT.

I guess they are trying to get you to give them your credit card or bank card details to pay this outstanding "bill".

There is an article from a newspaper here about it:

So much of this about these days. Not jus BT but people claiming to be from all sorts of companies. At one point I was getting up to 8 or 9 cold calls or prank calls on my mobile each day
Bhat Wastards! Glad you didn't fall for it, and thank you for highlighting this scam to others
that business about "cutting off your line" is worth bearing in mind
Must be an easy opportunity given, from personal experience, BT can cut you off without warning when their bill hasn't arrived to be paid. Makes people wary of such a cowboy outfit, and makes the threats all the more believable.

I seem to be another person. My apple account, my ebay account, et al.
thanks for the warning. Just to be safe, and having confirmed to the scammer that you are a customer, it wouldn't hurt to change your BT sports password.
I never open or reply to anything addressed to Dear Customer
