Advise On Taking On A Staff Member In Beauty Salon

I currently run a beauty salon by myself which is based on a holiday resort. Its only been going a year but is going good so far, however, I am pregnant and won't be able to put in as many hours and thinking of getting someone else in on a self employed basis.. My concerns are what would be best way of doing this? If I'm honest I have a control issue where I'm not sure I could let them arrange all bookings etc as worried there would be no customers /money left for me when I am avalible to work..
Do I ask for basic room rate per week ? Pay percentage of bookings done? - how would I monitor this? Is there a better way?
Please help!!

You don't have a control issue. You have a trust issue. The control is about being self employed and you know what you can do both financial & productivity. The issue is do you trust someone else with your business. So therefore instead of having a maternity break like others with no work related issues you have a maternity break whilst still working in effect because you do not want your hard work to go to waste. That is what self employment brings. Job satisfaction IMO is worth everything including incorporating children into the scheme if things.

Its not a regular income no, its very much seasonal business.

I think your right with trust issues! I have worked hard and not sure I feel others would have same passion to keep it to the high level.

I can work it very much part time around little one once here, but I guess my assumption is if someone else was on board there would be better opening times and some pressure taken off me etc
Its going to be especially difficult since there will be little time to get to know someone once the season begins and to learn to trust them before you have the baby.

The best thing to do is to think about how you would like to be treated if you were the new person. Is there a norm in your business? I kniw hairdressers rent a chair, what do beauticians do?

If you can split agree to the bookings in a certain way at the outset perhaps that would work well. But you also need a fee/ rent to cover overheads and you need to rhink about insurance. Will they have public liability insurance for example or will you have to cover them?

Theres Lots to take into account and you just need to work through it all and then agree it with the new person from the outset.

If you cannot work there your best option is to let it for a short period?
