Sorry should have said, scroll down for photos.
Because they often get it wrong.
Okay, localised drama I can understand but some of those pictures show barely and inch of snow.
A heavy right foot and a lack of common sense are at work here.

So glad you did or I'd have missed them, thank you so much!
It also depends on how long a journey someone has.
as the weather forecasters often get the afternoon wrong when a morning forecast is broadcast I have always found the best forecast comes from..............just looking out the window.....if it is raining I will get wet, If its sunny i will prob be warm and if it snows, unless life or death circumstances arise, I will stay home.........simples
Sometimes people get caught out because they are already into their journey, and let's face it abandoning cars is a rare event, I've never had to.
Some people HAVE to travel - emergency service and hospital staff, for example.
Perhaps some motorists have begun to notice, as I have, a tendency with media announcers to appear to exaggerate the severity of the weather. We hear 'take care; wrap up warm; carry a shovel, etc.; don't go out unless you have to;' and when we get out there, it doesn't seem so bad. So now drivers might tend to think, 'oh, that's just nannying, I've heard it all before.' And out they go. Some get stuck, but most get through OK.
I had to abandon my car once. Managed to park it though. An forecasted blizzard.
UN forecasted....
Wow! Some really great photographs there. I especially like the one of the roses on Basidon Moor, and also the expressions on the kid's faces playing with the snow. Some nice views of the country villages. I must say that your versions of snow-plows are...well...quaint:)
because nobody believes weather forecasts. I routinely check both BBC and Accuweather and just choose whichever one sounds nicer; they seldom say the same.

Never mind, you can always get your weather news from Twitter
