I'm doing this in bits before it closes on me again, sorry about that. I'm wondering if it's anything to do with Yosemite as it started happening around about the time I started using it although not sure, may have been a bit before.

I already typed all this out and lost it and it took 16 goes to get computer on again although this time it was at least trying, unsuccessfully. So any help gratefully received.

Thanks for all your answers LOL.

Think it's the battery or the lead to recharge the battery. Am borrowing a lead from a friend which should help to diagnose the problem. No worries, I can probably sort it out now.

Yes Methyl, it has charged with the help of friends charger. Ive been looking on t'internet for a new one and oh boy do these power chargers get a slating from Mac owners for their short lifespan. It appears I have been very lucky as mine has lasted 4 years whereas others are on their 5th charger by now and they are extortionately priced to replace. We have a little Mac man nearby so I shall give him a call in the morning and see what he is charging for a new one.

How long are you batteries lasting then M? I'm still on the original.
