It is reported that Bob Hoskins left just over £1 million in his will ......... I would've thought he was worth much more than that, thoughts please?

I agree saintpeter........successful film star leaving only a million........that is nothing today. House in London or a flat would certainly come to £1 and that is without investments. Seems odd.......but there will surely be a simple explanation perhaps in line with the first two posts.

Baldric...LOL.....clearly not clearly enough.
// I agree with dtcwordfan - a good tax accountant can vanish a fortune quite easily. Trusts, sales to relatives, "borrowings" against the estate, offshore investments. //

Curtis Warren famous drug dealer now back inside, was said to have accumulated £90m. ( bit of CPS hype there I think ) and concealed it - and when he came out and reclaimed it informally they all said - sorry Curits keeping it....presumably he didnt use proper trusts - and anyway yo can never trust another criminal
My granddad died 2 years ago. His cash wealth has been distributed according to his will but his estate is still active because of his investments (my nan is still alive but has dementia)

Same when my uncle died. I was still receiving cheques a good year after he died.

Yikes that is still £250 000 tax IHT

( 40% above £355 000 )

has to be paid before distribution of assets....
I found an investment cheque my mother had put into a telephone directory - you know like Old Ladies do.... ten years after her death I think

with a probate document the company registrar cheerfully paid it to the exec....
There's still a Inheritance Tax bill to play so not perfect but a good effort for a guy who must have earns millions in his career - 8/10 for a very creditable effort!
and the tax lawyers do stress that IHT is a voluntary tax - yo dont have to pay it if you think ahead
If you think the band 'Blue' actually had 80 million pounds put in thier respective bank accounts then you are living in cuckooland.
I was thinking the same, Talbot. They might have made 80 mill between them but by the time everyone else got their cut....
Perhaps he made provisions to avoid tax. Signing over his house and assets before he died, to avoid the Government getting the lions share.
When he retired in 2012, he was estimated to be worth $12 million (£7.5million).

At the time, he was reported to have sold his country retreat for
£895,000.

Clearly his wealth was distributed among his family before his death.
talbot/ummmm
.......please read my posts............carefully this time.
He probably had most of his money stashed away in a Swiss bank account.

I heard the quote about Blues earnings before, I think it was they made £80m for their management team but they saw hardly any of it
He clearly had a very good financial advisor.
I thought he did a lot of charity work but can't remember details. So maybe he just gave it away
I think Roger Rabbit has a lot to answer for
