The closing price of Apple Inc on 16th December 2010 was $45.87, which is nowhere near the price you're quoting of $609.84. The closing price on 16th December 2014 was $106.37, which is showing a good growth for you if you still hold the same number of shares. Without looking up the history, there may have been a share buy-back within the last few years, which would increase the value of the issued share capital.

I know this sounds odd. But i have a screenshot of my iphone around 4 years ago from the stock app and it says 609.84. (I,m looking at it now) today the stock app says 109.41. No one can answer this, its very odd indeed.
I'm no expert, but sometimes firms issue millions of new shares to raise cash. This lowers the value of the shares which would be unfair on earlier share-holders. So they swap your shares for the equivalent value of new shares. Don't they send you statements to keep you informed?
Did they issue more stock that you declined to purchase, first refusal ?
Apple did a 7 for 1 stock split in June of this year, you therefore now have 7 times as many shares as you had before. All historical prices that you see on the web will have been adjusted to take this into consideration which is why no-one can see the $609 you have on a screen capture
they had a scrip issue, when shares get to being high individually they often replace them with an N for 1 issue and divied the price by N giving a new starting point. This is often to overcome a psychological barrier and it helps small investors.
