Some time ago my bank in UK closed my account while I was abroad. I was outraged as I had been with them for 20 years and never owed them a penny and paid all bills on time. When I called them I was just passed from one department to another ,without any real explanation as to why.

As I am still abroad unfortunately cant just pop into nearest branch! Instead then I have written them several letters, which have been completely ignored by them!

At the time the account was closed by bank, there were several thousands in there and I am at my wits end.

Its almost like having it stolen and no one seems to care. I can now understand why people call them “Banksters”!

Being abroad makes it very hard to deal with this.
What can I do to force these people pay my money back?

>Are you living abroad? If so, have you informed the bank?

Yes to both Qs
I am just tired of this whole thing its been going on for months ... think the only way left now is to deal with Ombudsman.
I advise anyone stay away from Lloyds!
I originally was with TSB which was a good bank- after Lloyds took it over it was downhill all the way!
Have you confirmed that you were not one of the customers that were transferred to TSB?

You say the bank is LloydsTSB. Such a bank no longer exists.

I assume all the correspondence concerning this, and what was done with your account at the split into two separate banks, has gone astray since you seem unaware of it.

Nevertheless they are very remiss in not answering your queries (perhaps they suspect your communications are from a fraudster, not you - did you advise them of your current address when you moved there, with supporting evidence?)

Well, it did at the time and the branch where account was held still exists.

I should not think so- when I spoke to them I answered the security questions for the closed account and was transferred to local Branch, just received no relevant info or was contacted by manager as promised!
As for address I was never asked to prove it was correct, as I said total lack of communication.
If they suspect it was fraudster at least they should have tried to contact me on the details given to ask further questions and confirm ID with further security questions.
The branch will now be either LLoyds or TBS but not LLOYDS-TSB.
You need to find out which it is and address the letter correctly.
I still feel something doesn't seem right here.
Are you sure they have your correct address?
I would be very surprised if they would close an account without any warning or subsequent explanation.
If the situation is exactly as you say then send a letter by recorded delivery, copied to Money Box or a major newspaper, to the chairman or other senior member asking how their actions /lack of communication fit in with the requirement to treat customers fairly.
Is there any other info that we need to know to give a helpful answer?
Just out of curiosity I googled to see if there was a way of checking sortcodes

Found this

http://www.paymentscouncil.org.uk/resources_and_publications/sort_code_checker/

Haven't got my code handy to test it, but hopfepully it will tell you what bank you are with.
That link does tell me the name and branch location.
