I had to share. Made for the wedding night of Sir John Radclyffe & Lady Anne Asshawe, how romantic. Take a look at the detail of the bed in the gallery, just beautiful. http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/elizabethan-bed-comes-back-ordsall-8227040

Now, THAT is a bed !! They certainly didn't get that from IKEA or Dreams !!

Lol Jan, seems tiny though doesn't it.
People seemed to sleep almost sitting up then. Also, I think most of them were little short*** es. Personally, I hate 4 posters. I think they always look so claustrophobic and dark and sinister and the occupant was just waiting to be murdered !!

You're funny Jan ;0) I would fit snug in that. I feel the opposite, I think they look so cosy. I'd love to try a four poster. How indulgent to buy it for young girl. This bed needs love, care & respect.
I've slept in 4 posters, they always freak me out. My niece has one, bought at auction at a stately home in Yorkshire. It's a gazillion years old. Oh.. if it could talk, the stories and creaks it could tell.

Oh really. I've yet to try one. I'm not sure I'll ever get the chance.
Yes you will Elina. Lots of hotels and B & B s now have 4 posters, especially in "the honeymoon suites". Who goes on "honeymoon" any more?
I like 4 posters, but they'd be too tall to put in a modern house. Aren't they supposed to have a curtain to keep the draughts/cold out though ?
I can appreciate it's artwork and the history surrounding it, but I personally find it bug ugly!

Still, it obviously had the desired effect for them, they had 6 kids in it :-)
I wonder if it still has the original mattress?
I agree with B00, dark and oppressive.
I can appreciate it as a work of art but as others have said, I'd no more lie down in it than sprout wings and fly. Plus, who'd want to buy and sleep in a bed some geezer had died in?
