I understand that if you are having blood taken then a vein is used but which is used for an infusion/drip ??

Vein - the pressure in an artery would result in spraying blood all over the place if you attempt to use it for a drip or taking blood.
You only ever have blood taken from an artery for an arterial blood gas to my knowledge, this is an incredibly painful experience!
Could be either.
Normally a vein is used but an artery can also be used e.g chemotherapeutic agents in cancer.
