My Seagate packed up within 6 months. I now use 2 Freecom external drives and both are going strong.

Thank you for your help much appreciated.
I have a seagate external 2TB drive and it is perfectly good. In fact I had a seagate internal hdd that lasted for absolutely years without a problem despite I the fact they have a bad reputation
I must be lucky, I've never worried about the brand as long as it was well known. Have had Seagate and WD and others. Never had any obvious issues.

I have a Western Digital 160GB which I've been using for a few years now.
Just to add I tend not to buy without looking at the customer reviews. Might make a difference.
