hello any one suggest a good system protector for my windows 7 acer laptop we are currently using Microsoft Security Essentials but despite me setting up a nightly scan and update it keeps telling me it's "potentially unprotected"

You say "good" are you looking for a free one or do you wish to buy a virus scanner?

Either AVG (free.avg.com) or ZoneAlarm (www.zonealarm.com) are excellent and free

Have a look at the Action Centre and see what security Windows THINKS you have installed.

It may be the computer came with a trial security package and that has now run out, making you potentially unprotected.

If the action centre shows other security software installed then uninstall it and reboot.

Then Microsoft Security Essentials will become your main security software.

What are your settings for "Windows Update"? I have mine set to download them but not install them until I say so and it sometimes complains that I might not be fully protected.

Download and install Avast free antivirus it is the best free antivirus you can get I have used it for many years .The currant version has many of the features found in the paid version
