Sol Campbell appears to be a very wealthy man, so he can't expect much in the way of sympathy here.

But he bought it when he could afford it!! Why punish the 'rich on paper' now.
perhaps the Welsh secretary should have taken on Myleen Klass last week! in fact perhaps the Welsh Secrectary has other talents beyond those of TLOTO!

Really though the whole concept is rather silly. I mean you can have Buck house in a sh1th0le and it's worth tuppence happeny, yet a shoe box in Knightsbridge is worth the crown jewels, thus the whole thing is folly. MK said you can't just point at things and tax them, she was wrong of course because the governement can but really you should think it through before you point at something!

I can't see what is so different about this proposed new tax ( proposed by both Labour and the LibDems, by the way ) and Council Tax. For as many years as I can remember, people with expensive houses have been asked to pay more tax. It used to be called the rates and now we call in Council Tax.

We also have death duties, or Inheritance Tax as its now called. As far as I am concerned, Sol Campbell has no sympathy whatsoever from me. Some would say that footballers are paid ridiculously high salaries...if that is the case, this is his opportunity to pay a bit more to help his country...the country that made him wealthy in the first place.

He is a very wealthy man and he should stop moaning.
Yes PP, confiscation tax, still the darling of the reds under the bed though, they can't bear prosperity, except their own. Ask Scargill or the Late Bob Crow!

Or the current LibDem Party TTT ! This is their policy as well. So 2 out of the 3 main Parties at Westminster think that a "Mansion" Tax is the right way forward.
hmm I cant remember Bob Crow as a particular right wing hate figure

umm lots of people are asset-rich and income poor
usually over 65 years. - millions of them

I often suggesting selling up and downsizing and giving the excess to their grasping children because now their property fits their pension. [ VERY tax efficient ]

and blimey you should see the looks on their faces ! its like I have said can I marry your daughter !

excellent reason for pensioners to vote UKIP innit ?
Question Author
Alas...some pensioners probably will PP !
//So 2 out of the 3 main Parties at Westminster think that a "Mansion" Tax is the right way forward. //

many millions in the UK believe that hanging terrorists is the right way forward. just because a loony idea has a lot of support doesn't make it any less loony.

///house I lived in when young was bought by my parents in an outer London suburb in 1963 for around £1500. today, a neighbouring property is on the market for over a million///

That's ok then, Mansion Tax doesn't kick-in 'til it's worth £2M
I don't consider myself particularly right wing PP, in fact some of my policies are bordering on communism but Bob crow is not a particular target merely one that comes to mind as agood example.
"Or the current LibDem Party TTT ! This is their policy as well" - well that's th clincher Mikey, if the Libdums love it it must be ***. They rarely if ever have a good idea!
// ///house I lived in when young was bought by my parents in an outer London suburb in 1963 for around £1500.//

not a bad price for London then, accounting for inflation it is about £30k
My own parents bought at £8 800 in Devon - but no suburbs there

and it is a pity the family didnt hang onto the house !
This is the reason alot of the OAPs hang onto houses they cant afford to run - the capital gain for their kids is worth it

Damn it, I thought the shadow secretary had danced round Sol and scored.
Why should they downsize, PP.

They bought a house, pay the upkeeps for house, why then should they pay extra tax? Even if they bought the house 20 years ago?

It's wealth envy....
