/the EU is a device to support inneficiency and socialism, the sooner we are out the better./

seems like an admission of zero self confidence and an attempt to make giving up and running away seem like a bold act

if you think Britain doesn't have the talent, skills and balls to make a go of it why don't you just say so?
//Whatever the reason, we now produce more cars in the UK than ever before. //

The reason is Union power is at a correct level and foreign countries are willing to invest. A major player is Japan, not the the EU last time I looked.
// Whatever the reason, we now produce more cars in the UK than ever before.

Thanks to our position in the EU. Or do you really think Honda, Ford and Nissan would be here anyway? //
Well we did manage to get shot of union problems for them. Any company goes where the incentives are, you don;t need to be in the EU to offer those.

///pain is what you feel when paying a billion a month to get kicked in the teeth continually./

if that is your perception then you are destined to fail. ///
my face hurts is that an illusion?

//the EU is a device to support inneficiency and socialism, the sooner we are out the better. // - could not have put it better myself!
the whole point of the EU was indeed to stop wars - in particular to make France and Germany so economically interdependent they couldn't do it again (they'd done it more than twice in the previous century), but to do the same for all members.

It's worked. Anyone who thinks our economy is catastrophic needs to have another look at the Depression, which is what happened after the previous war.
You are suggesting I need to be a history expert which I am not but

"It must be just a freak coincidence then, or perhaps you can point out a similar period of peace in europe EVER?"

I appreciate you are being provocative :-) but it is a case of learning by one's mistakes. One ought not expect to still be getting the same things wrong now as in the past.

"If that were true OG perhaps you can explain why the ruined economies after WW1 didn't stop WW2?"

Because governments had not learn that to punish the country deemed responsible with punitive measures might satisfy a sense of justice, but it acts as a "pressure cooker" ensuring a further breakout by those feeling oppressed. Such a community tends to give support to any extremist party that promises a better future. After that was realised, folk are less likely to make the same mistake again.
if that's the main aim then what is wrong with general cooperation and trading agreements, we could call it the common market.... hang on!
Mafbog I think the main reason Japanese manufacturers (and others) are here is that they have a ready market all over Europe for their products.

I agree that incentives play a part but no amount of incentives would induce a manufacturer to come here to make a product that he couldn't sell.

perleeese!

Japan are in the UK because we are a good placed to be AND our membership gives them access to european markets

I expect if we leave the they could easily move to Slovakia or similar

/my face hurts is that an illusion?/

Yes it is.
I know several people with identical facial situations to yours and they feel fine
