Hi my sister met a Nigerian man about 12 months ago on a dating site at the time he was working as a security gaurd in London. My sister fell pregnant straight away and he moved to be with her giving up his job. He is here on a work visa and is a microbiologist apparently. They had a daughter and my sister has decided to go back to work full time and he is going to look after their daughter. How long will he be able to stay in the country for before the visa runs out or is he here as an illegal as nothing makes since! He doesn't want to go out to work so my sister is having too and he lives off her which I hate! He makes no effort with the family and tells my sister she can't go out with the baby! I'm so worried! Can anyone make sense if this cos I cant.

I don't know about the legalities...but I'd say he's using your sister. A microbiologist?? Yeh...right!
If he's here legally then he's not 'illegal'

It took my cousin (in-law) about 4 years before he could stay legally (I don't know the terminology)
He is here on a 'work visa' yet he is working as a security guard when he is a microbiologist???
He would not get a visa to work as a security guard , work visas are only granted for highly skilled specialist jobs where there is a shortage of suitable people in the UK.
He does not want to go out to work ? of course he does not want to go out to work as he can't he is illegal . I bet the security guard job was illegal as well.
This all adds up, the dating site, moving in with your sister, giving up his job, telling your sister she can't go out with her own baby, he is here illegally and is using you sister to stay out of sight of the authorities .
Report him using woofgangs link.
I would not let him look after the baby , what happens if the child is ill or needs a doctor? Is he going to to take the baby to hospital or the surgery and risk being asked about his immigration status?
Now that he has a child would any talk of removing him from this country pose a threat to his right to a family life as enshrined in EU Human Rights legislation?
Right Sandy, sounds like that horse has bolted now.
I agree with Eddie, the critical point is how he would deal with an emergency with her baby? Your sister needs to consider her child above all and this man does not appear to be doing this.
The child is the most important person in this and as I read it, that child is at risk of not being adequately cared for . You say this man 'makes no effort with the family' yet he wants to look after the child so that your sister can go out to work and keep him! Does he have any child care skills? from what you say I rather doubt it. You owe it to the child to get this sorted out.
Employers are supposed to check for right of abode and work permits (OK we know that some aren't good at it) so it's possible if unlikely he's not actually illegal.

But yes it's the child that is the main concern but you want to avoid her being taken into care
dzeug ^^ if he was a microbiologist his work visa would have specified that he could only work in that field. His visa would not allow him to work as a security guard. You can buy a degree in any subject from fake / dodgy Universities in Nigeria and use them to get a work visa, it is a known scam. You get the visa then once in the uk just work in any job where the employer does not ask too many questions, ( there are plenty of them)
