is it possible to download a programme from the bbc iplayer onto my hard drive. I cannot find any option when selecting a programme to watch to download. and also, does sky delete programmes from the iplayer in its catch up tv option. I have watched the first two episodes of sonic highway (foo fighters). all the episodes are available on the iplayer on my laptop and ipad, but I prefer to watch on a large screen. I went into catch up, bbc iplayer, the first two, and the fifth episodes are there, but the second and third are missing. it is not that they have 'run out of time' because these episodes were shown in order and there is 9 days left to run on the first two episodes. I want to save these programmes and plan to record them onto a disc but don't seem to be able to get the full series from sky, and don't appear to be able to download onto the laptop?? help anyone??

From the BBC website:
The rights to make a programme available for streaming are different from those for downloading. We aim to acquire both, but sometimes we can only get the rights for streaming. So not all programmes are available for download.

I don't know why to episodes are missing from Sky catchup.

You can connect your laptop to your tv in various ways so that you can watch the laptop on your big screen

yes I understand the non availability for downloading, I have found out that the rights are obtained differently for different options. none of the episodes are available to download, but there is no explanation for two episodes missing from sky, when they are there on iplayer. I have put out a query on the sky forum and will see what they have to say. it is not the first time I have seen complaints about missing episodes. this may motivate me to get the necessary cable to connect either (or both) the ipad and laptop to the tv. this series definitely lends itself to a big screen
As you have an ipad you could buy GoogleCast which has had terrific reviews for streaming web content. You just need a spare HDMi port on your tv and £30.

£30 doesn't seem like a fortune, but it annoys me that we pay out a considerable amount of money a month to sky, part of which allows us to use catch up, and bits are missing. I didn't ought to have to pay someone else to get what I am already paying for. I will be getting in touch with sky about it when I can galvanise myself to do battle with the call centre
Good luck. I've never used Sky so I've no idea how good, bad or indifferent they are

well someone did respond quite quickly from the help form and they are aware of these two episodes being missing. they are looking into it but I notice they are still not there so am not holding my breath. have a hdmi cable now so can at least watch them on the tv
Glad you got a reply, at least. And the HDMi cable will probably come in useful for other things.
