i live in a modern house and the existing radiators have the pipes coming through the wall with what looks like a socket behind, could be the earth spurt (as someone suggested) we would like to replace the one in the downstairs toilet with a chrome towel rail and hubby thinks its something he can do himself, have looked on various sites to find details but the radiators i have seen to be replaced have all been the standard ones that have the pipes coming from up the floor rather than out the wall so any help with pictures would be of great help

Is this an electrical radiator/towel rail, or a hot water one ?

Surely the issue is just a case of routing the existing pipes (or cables) to where the new towel rail needs them ? Floor/wall, is there a big difference ?

sorry should of said its a hot water one and we didnt particulary want to start re-routing pipes so wanted to use existing ones that come out from the wall if possible
A 90 degree angle pipe connector would convert the horizontal pipe to a vertical one.

any pics on the internet vulcan42
Trying to visualise what you already have. Any chance of putting a pic on tinypic to assist us?
see Old Geezers link, that's the sort of thing. If the pipes are different sizes you can get adaptors to convert.
Perhaps even better than OG's link. One of these with a short length of chrome tube.............

It's a relatively simple job for hubby, but only if the measurements line up. You'd need the distance between the two supply pipes to be the same as the distance between the two connections on the towel rail.

Could get messy if you have to bend tube and fiddle about to connect up.
It sounds like you have small bore plastic pipes coming from the outlet box.Use 90 degree valves to suit the diameter of the pipe....however with a towel rail the pipes and outlet will be visible ......hence the reason they fitted a rad.You will have to re pipe if you want it to look half decent.
