I'm buying a load of new pillows feather and foam , can I just take the old ones to the tip or is there a use for them?.

It might be worth a phone call to your local pet rescue centre to see if they've got any use for your pillows; many of them can make use of any form of bedding materials.

tip em. If they are feather and you make compost, the feathers will compost eventually but its a messy smelly business.
I have used them to stuff cushions in the past.

Mind you, I don't think I'd do it again, it's a messy process - and the feathers aren't clean once you've slept on them.
Feathers mixed with vegetable waste compost quite quickly and don't smell any worse than normal compost. I once did experiments on this very subject for a chicken megafarm. 10:1 by weight, vegetable matter:feathers should work.
