When tilly2 told us about her german shepherd pulling her out of a ditch i wondered how many dog lovers on answerbank have similar stories,my black labrador lifted a lamb out of a burn and laid it at the feet of the mother, and my lakeland terrier got tired of swimming in the pond and held on to the labs ear with his teeth and got towed along, only wish i had a video camera at the time.

My good lady Carakeel has taught our Wolfhound "Gilligan" to stand close to her when her legs are bad so she can support herself with him, and when she has fallen, Gilligan will brace himseflf next to her so she can use him to help her stand up again.

I'm sure this has done the rounds before, but it never ceases to amaze me :)

I hadn't seen that clip before Gizmonster. It was an lovely thing to see.

I have no doubt that either of my dogs would have protected me. I have no doubt that my current moggies would not - self preservation is something that they have perfected. I still love them so much. (apart from when I want to throttle them).
brilliant clip -thank you for posting it, it started my day with a smile

Carakeel's Wolfhound many years ago, saved a young child from an English bull terrier that had attacked the child, during the attack, her Wolfie picked up the terrier and killed it. The child was Badley mauled. This was in Germany.
Amazing clip, thank you jordyboy. My friend's German Shepherd hated people swimming in a pool - he used to jump in and try to "shoulder nudge" them to the side, we had to make sure that he wasn't around if we wanted to use the pool!
When I was a young girl I was walking the family dog when a big dog came from nowhere and attacked him. I was in a panic and didn't know what to do when I saw two other dogs running towards us which I thought were going to join in, but to my utter joy they rounded on the big dog and chased him off and left me able to get my dog, who was thankfully uninjured, back home. Those two dogs definitely came to my aid - bless them.
Just so the dogs don't get all the praise, here's a clip of a cat chasing a dog off, after the dog attacked a young toddler.
