I went to buy some condensed milk to make a caramel cream and found that the nice folk at Carnation have introduced a caramel.

I was tempted to buy it to save me the faff of having to boil the tin but decided against as I want it really well cooked.

Has anyone bought it and can you tell me how dark a caramel it is?

It's lovely, not too dark at all, I made a banoffee pie with it- was just right :-)
its very pale, i realy don't think its anywhere dark enough for creme caramel

Ta Boo, would you say it was American Tan or paler?

Thanks Chris ; I'm not making creme caramel, just a caramel flavoured cream, (double cream with cooked condensed milk added) to serve with an apple dessert.
It's quite pale, think english toffee pale.

I made the right call then, the flavour wouldn't have been intense enough to be mixed with the cream.

It's yummy, and definitely very toffee-y. I used it to make caramel buttercream for some sticky toffee cake and it was delicious. Rather a lot was eaten straight from the tin but I'm not saying who it was ;)
I want some now
