My daughter has a 7 year old staffy, she has started running about 3km a night and planning on building it up. She has been taking the dog with her, but is wondering if it might be too much every night for the dog. Dog seems happy enough and not stiff, but wonder if it my cause damage in future years.
Thanks

Maybe she could run close to home and drop the dog and carry on herself.

If the dog is happy to do it then ok.
I think the staffie would be OK walking but running further than 3Km might be a bit much.

They will go until they drop.
Running or jogging?

I was walking behind a jogger recently and was walking at her jogging pace.

It's running. She was thinking maybe every other day with the dog.

That's a good idea ummm, that way, dog gets out for a wee while.
Cheers
Dogs do love to run but I hope the running won't be his only walks? dogs like to stroll and sniff and mark as well as just keep running.
Good thinking, ummmm. That's a much better idea.
I'd agree that this is a bit OTT.

As advised, dogs will run until they collapse, but it obviously doesn't mean that prolonged running is good for them.

It would be great if they were bright enough to know when to stop, but of course, they don't!
I remember walking Mr Harv about 7 miles in his younger day but he slept for about 2 days after it and I swore never again.
I used to walk my cousins Mastiff. Sometimes I couldn't get him to walk let alone run....stupid dog! :-)
3k isn't that far (only 1.87 miles) and should be achievable by a reasonably fit dog. Check out the Canix uk website for details of human with dog races (cross country events for human and pet which are generally held over 5k). Open to all varieties of mutt. Gives training advice on how to build up fitness.
My niece runs run about 4 miles most days and always takes their dog a medium size,4 yr old Heinz 57 with her and she can't tire her out.She gets home and the dog has a drink and collapses in her basket and by the time shes had a shower the dogs ready to go again.
