@gromit

I have never ever been asked, approached or pestered by a poppy seller "chugger" in any way or form.

and i have never heard of it being done to anybody else by authorised poppy seller, they dont chug and if they did I really dont mind one bit, they deserve every damn penny they can raise unlike some charities whos reason for existance seems to be to pay the high salaries of their executives, marketing people etc.
oh, can outraged contributors NOT activate the trigger happy mods please ?

it wrecks the rhythm of the thread....
@PP

"retro and chilldo I will say it again:

and yes I am referring to the fact that all street collectors may not be consigning the money they collect to the requisite charity

it is rather an obvious point I am afraid.... "

and a totally pointless one, just like any charity theres bound to be (unfortunately) some bad apples.

still, dont let that bother you though, that and the point about poppy sellers being called "chuggers"
// I have never ever been asked, approached or pestered by a poppy seller "chugger" in any way or form. //

it is an issue oop t' North in general.

much more tax efficient - oops wrong thread ! - to give by Giftaid when at home

of which you could never be accused of doing....
If you have (n)ever donated to the RBL you will be invited to place your donation personally in a round conical container with a slot at the top.The RBL collector will not have a key to unlock it. They do not collect donations in an open bucket which, I agree, is open to any one to help themselves. I am well aware of bogus charity collectors and I repeat the RBL you singled out are not a bogus criminal enterprise and I say again , shame on you for suggesting so.
RBL poppy sellers are totally different to chuggers. Chuggers don't take cash off you, they can only get you to sign up to regular payments and I agree it's debatable where their money goes.

I bought a poppy this week from a stunningly uniformed RBL member, had to be 80+, who politely knocked at my door. Can't fault them.
My daughter knits approx 100 poppies every year. They are not "for sale" but she asks for a donation to Help for Heroes. Last year she raised over £500 for the cause.
Our town centres are in danger of being swamped by chuggers.
Actually, I didn't think chugging was allowed any more. Don't they just have to stand there holding a tin, so as not to intimidate people?

Far from being chugged, I had to seek out and approach the people to get my poppy the other day.
// I bought a poppy this week from a member who knocked at my door. //

I would call that Charity mugging. It may be for a good cause, but that is preying on people guilt. You would feel embarrassed not to put money in their tin.
That's a fair point Gromit but I'm happy to buy a red poppy. If I had strong enough views to think they are warmongers, or should buy a white one then I would be strong enough to tell them my argument and shut the door.
The OP was clearly a joke.
As was my reply.

Clearly some posters have had a humour by-pass.
Clearly...
