i know the holday firms take the *** but surely education is more imprtanat than a jolly? Would you take your saucepans on holiday in term time?

perhaps the target was unreasonable, slapshot? Sensible targets take some account of the people they're imposed on. If the teachers are treated like robots, you can expect the students to be too.
Hypgnosis- before I go- that sounds good but what I get too often is "still don't get it...it's your job... can't stay behind...no internet at home... "

Perhaps Jno perhaps however the headmistress at the time was adamant this was the best teacher in the school!!

I may be scathing but I do understand that teachers have a difficult job to do and are under serious pressure. For the most part they do a great job unfortunately the negatives are always more obvious than any positives
Teachers not turning up at school at the first sign of snow because they fancy days off affects kids education too but they don't get penalised for that

Yes. Family holidays are important, more so than missing a few school days. I wouldn't do it every year, but I'd have no qualms about doing it.
