Can anyone tell me the most reliable way of checkung if a car is hpi clear b4 we buy it. But not the £3 text ones

I've found the AA and RAC ones very reliable although more expensive.

Be warned of the latest problem when buying a used car. People have been taking out "pay-day" loans, using the car as security. They then sell the car without paying-back the loan. The loan company turns up later and takes the car from the new "owner" - it is legally theirs and, unfortunately, this situation does not show up on HPI checks.

I thought the loan company takes the V5 as security -so if there is a V5 then there is no loan?
