...with just 36% saying they want out.

Why do you think this is?

Could it be that the rise of UKIP has actually galvanised the waverers?

Could this be the real voice of the 'silent majority'?

With the rise and evident popularity of UKIP, these figures make absolutely no sense...!

Anyone got an idea?

Because I for one am flummoxed

(...and admittedly, quietly/childishly giggling to myself in anticipation of the forthcoming answers).

Considering that the right wing gutter press have been campaigning against the EU for decades the poll result is quite surprising and has restored my oft lagging confidence in the intellect of the British public. Perhaps the gutter press readers are only interested in celeboobs and nipslips and don't actually read the papers that they buy

He's just against the inflammatory Post? that said 56% wanted to stay IN. One of us is confused. ;)
oh, I see, only hard working, home owners should be allowed to vote?

Night methyl!
How much of a percentage am I?
Never believe the polls. Who do they ask? About 1000 people in a certain area . We have a population of 64m. Granted not all are eligible to vote, but the polls are hardly a cross section of UK voters.
Well, 100% of THIS Briton wants 100% out of the vile EU.
I wonder if that figure will change since the incoming president of the EU, Jean-Claude Juncker, has rejected out of hand any attempt by David Cameron to destroy the fundamental rules of the EU on the free movement of people?

The British public don't like being told what they can or cannot do, or at least they once did.

I think the Brits like a good moan, they enjoy bewailing things and threatening anyone or anything that changes things or tells them they have to do things a certain way, so they do that about the EU. That's all fine and Dandy the majority know full well that we ought not to actually act on that moaning, it would be foolhardy, ridiculous and unsafe to do so, so when they see the lunatic fringes of UKIP whipping folk up into a frenzy of go it alone stupidity, they finally stop moaning and actually think logically and thus 56% of us are quite happy as members of the EU because to be otherwise is financial and social suicide.

That's racist.

The word 'Brits' suggests the British people are no more advanced than the animal skin covered Ancient 'Brits'.

Yes it is ridiculous, but no more ridiculous that other racial abbreviations we are not allowed to use.
I'm a moany Brit AOG and so are you- it's an elite club you know:)
which way would you be voting, kval, if there was a referendum now?
Absolutely to stay in the EU. I have family in Germany and a Macedonian person who has married into us though and so I think because we own property here and in Germany and work is also between the two it's a natural option for us, however I don't subscribe to the 'there's an immigrant the sky is falling!' feeling that some people have anyway.

Call me a moaning Englishman if you must, but never a 'Brit', because I find this most offensive.
Oh sorry AOG, since we live in the British Isles I didn't realise anyone would be offended by that :)
AOG - Would you accept a Brit Award for best solo artist?!

I must admit, when I have a form to complete that only gives me the option of 'British', I always put 'English'. Just a bit of a pet hate I have.
The term Brit was used pejoratively by Irish republicans during the time of the troubles. I agree with AOG; I find it offensive. I am British, a Briton or English, not a Brit.
Actually thinking about it my father uses it fairly disparagingly (from Belfast) so apologies if I caused anyone offence, I genuinely tend to use it to describe anyone British, but if it offends I'll happily refrain.
As my dad used to say, "I don't care what I'm called as long as I'm not called too late for my dinner". People need to stop looking for offence - and to stop being so touchy. The whole country is constantly treading on eggshells! Sheesh!
B-hell, there are some sensitive folk on here, Brit doesn't bother me, it's an Americanism as well, you know. There's far worse terms out there for us used by Johnny-Foreigner.
