If you drew the net of the cube (or unfolded the cube into a 2d cross shape) then the two angles (at 45 degrees each) would total 90 degrees. But in 3d the angle is 60 degrees as you can add a third diagonal on the hidden left hand face to form an equilateral triangle

It has to be a yes/no answer though. So that doesn't work.
Ok- so you point in one of the two directions and ask something like "if I asked the other alien whether this was the right way would he say 'yes'"
