I would think coach will be cheapest if you are not worried about travel time but if you book early train may give you a good deal

About £35 by coach and will take around 6 hours each way. Just put all the dates and times in t National Express website

Just so you know, NE coaches no longer stop at Greyfriars bus station (as it is in the process of being demolished as "a 70's eyesore"). They now stop in Victoria Street by the big car park (which is no where near the new bus station!).
