Ok, hypothetical lI know!

I wonder how the religious would cope. I dont think most of the religious could cope, they have mostly known no difference and I think they would live a life of denial. It would leave a vast empty hole that could never be filled.


I find the concept interesting, I know a few people that, if you took away their faith they would most likely fall apart.

I do like the idea of god punishing wrongdoers after they are dead, what a compassionate stance. Anyway who even knows whether of not satan lets in the people god sends to him....?

God forbid it is not you.Imagine an innocent pedestrian,waitng at a bus-stop,suddenly a dog runs in to the path of a car,the driver swerves to avoid running over the dog and mounts the kerb ploughing in to the pedestrian who is rushed to A&E in a terrible state /touch and go... I guarantee 99 people out of 100 as they're getting wheeled in to the theatre will say out loud "God,please let me live!" True athiests are one in a million,lets have aworld where people are more open about their faith whatever it may be.

Will Atheist shout "God,please let me live!" going into theatre. Well probably not if they are in that bad a state. However, I am sure many will, I will often be heard to say "God help us!", and exclaim "Jesus Christ!" I am not appealing to anybody, certainly not some fictitious deity. These days these expressions are used as common phrases and mean nothing!

Also, I think when people are dying, they are likely to be in a very desperate state, and yes I am sure many Atheist will plead to a God, it maybe is a very desperate attempt to be saved, but they are not thinking rationally are they!

It is little more than a silly fairy story that some adults didn't grow out of, like they did with Santa etc. We don't need to be killing innocent people to convince anybody of anything!

Given the many varieties of religion various individuals subscribe to or practice on an individual basis, I question whether a consensus of what the term 'religion' means is possible. Perhaps there are some who practice what they consider to be a form of religion that involves no deity whatsoever. If I recall correctly at some point in this forum the assertion has been made that atheism is itself a form of religious belief.

If you want to define religion broadly as simply devotion to an idea or principal than my religion would have to be 'Reason' . . . however irreverently I might practice it.

I am just finishing her, 'The Great Transformation; The world in the Time of Buddha, Socrates, Confucius and Jeremiah", 400 pages of brilliant, balanced knowledge, and of which The Times says "Armstrong reads sensitively, writes fluently, reflects widely and interprets generously."
The Sunday Times says "This book is an absolute refutation of the current wave of disreputable and intellectually trivial attempts to banish religion from human affairs, It deserves nothing but praise." ... and there are more accolades.
She is a leading authority on ALL world religions and she has written many highly praised books, - which ones have you read? and which bring you to believe that she does not have a "balanced judgement" ?
