Supermarket management always say that this sort of thing was a mistake and their Staff will be reminded of the correct policy. But in this case 3 checkout staff shouted at this poor lady, not just some twit of a security guard, which is the usual story. And she has been offered a £20 voucher !

A face to face apology is what Tesco should be offering this lady, and from the checkout staff involved.

Do you really need training to recognize a guide dog, in a florescent harness with guide dog in big letters? Do you really need training to realize that almost evey where in the UK guide dogs are allowed? I don't think so?

Tesco have about a quarter of a million staff. I don't suppose there's any real way they can all be made perfect overnight.

you need to be trained specifically in Tesco's policies about admitting animals, and it doesn't look as if they were.
Poor lady and dog, how stupid. If the staff can't recognise a guide dog, they need re-training.
If the staff can't recognise a guide dog they need to go to spec savers!
I work for Tesco and no one in our store would shout at anyone with a guide dog. I and other members of staff would approach the person and ask if they needed any assistance.
The newspapers seem to have a vendetta against Tesco at the moment, but, blame corporate head office, not the shop floor staff, who do care about the customers.
Common sense went when the HSE decided to make living at work HELL. We don't use any common sense anymore. We are programmed to work like monkeys. 'Computer says no', 'No dogs allowed', 'hard hats to be worn at all times'. 'Do not use common sense as it will somehow breach the Health and Safety act (legislation)'. Three checkout staff? come on. Lets bring back common sense! Vote Yes with me.

chilli: "The newspapers seem to have a vendetta against Tesco at the moment, " then stop giving them the ammo! maybe this would not happen in your store, clearly there is a store where it did happen.
perhaps the staff are recent imports from less enlightened countries.
Svjek I find that people who work at check out from 'less enlightened countries' as you call them are much more sympathetic and nice than some frosty faced British.

I'm not saying they're not nice people. Just anybody who's lived in Britain for the last 20 or 30 years would assume her dog to be a guide-dog and have a pretty good idea of the rules.
Perhaps the problem here was Tesco assumed everybody knew about guide dogs and didn't mention it to staff under training. Should never have happened though.
Well, maybe in the future when robots are serving us they will be able to always say and do the right thing due to their complex programming!
Once again, Tesco eVERY LITTLE HELPs
Because I can't imagine 3 checkout staff in my Tesco gathering and shouting no dogs allowed and get out and never come back I feel this story has been embellished to some degree - unless staff in London are a different breed.
I agree with Prudie, it just seems so off.
