Answering a question about first questions I came across the above answer in my first question. Do the nurses use the cold spoon to give the offending member a sharp blow to deflate it?

When I was at school, a long time ago, we boys were all lined up to see the Nurse, part of the examination was to drop your shorts for her to examine your nether regions - one of the boys ahead of me was in an 'excited' condition when it came for his display.

The Nurse took one look and said 'that's enough of that!' and hit him with a ruler, this had the desired effect and concentrated everyone else's mind perfectly!
I thought cold spoons were a cure for hiccoughs.

I suppose if you were hit over the head with a cold spoon that might stop your hiccups too.
Cold spoon down the back, I thought.
Cold nose in the ear works better :)

Must be subconscious. But it's funny how two threads featuring spoons are running in tandem at the moment.
